Getting It All Together

My writing projects are all over the place. In desk drawers, folders, and God only knows where else. My WIP is a jumble of scenes. I believe this is why I get so frustrated sometimes when I try and write. I've heard the advice that you should always know where you're going before you sit down to write. That way it will be easier to get started. Well, I don't even know where I am most of the time in my writing, much less where I'm going.

So the next few days will be spent getting my writing (or at least my WIP) organized so I can see where I am and then where I'm going. Wish me luck! (Sometimes I feel like the least organized person in the world)!

  1. I wish you luck. I understand this struggle. It is why I no longer launch into writing without my outline. I get lost in words quickly otherwise.

    Thanks for joining my blog

  2. Don't give up, that's the main thing! We all go through different phases in each stage of our lives :-) And just imagine the inspiration you'll "discover" when you go thru those files--you'll find things you didn't remember you had. Good luck with it all...

  3. Totally agree with Kenda. The fact that you are working on your WIP is a good thing.

Don't get too stuck in the "where you're going" outlining thing. Sometimes, you just have to write and the book's path will reveal itself to you.

    Good luck! :)

  7. I always know where I'm going before I start my work day. I do this by ending in a ready spot, the day before. I love love love, having my work ready and waiting. Then all I gotta do is show up, put my ass in the chair and bang it out. Ah ... now that's the good stuff.

  8. Hello! Wishing you tons of good luck with your organising. I have to plan out my stories, at least in outline form, as all other routes lead to writing chaos! For me, anyway. :)

  9. Ernest Hemingway always ended his writing with the next scene in his mind. He would never write himself out of scenes. That way he would always know what he was starting with when he sat down to write the next day. Also overnight, his subconscious would have been working on the scene in question. And the scene would have developed depth and facets it hadn't had the day before. Just a thought. Great blog you have. Roland

  10. We all feel like the least organized person in the world, even those few who really do have it together, don't feel like they do.
On a side-note - I organized my WIP files the other day and it felt great. Best of luck!
